A Seed, such a small, simple little-thing, and yet, within its tiny casing, it carries the most powerful forces on this planet: possibility, hope, renewal. Everything from the most-towering sequoia, to the delicate pansy, began the same way: as a Seed, budding with opportunity.
No Seed is perhaps more iconic and recognizable than that of the Sunflower, which itself, births a robust, golden stalk of radiance and beauty. Wear this set as a symbol of growth and new passings, and remember: within you, something new is still waiting to bloom.
Denim and sunflower seed earrings are a great pairing. A long-sleeved denim shirt in the fall with pretty piping; in the summer, a denim camisole to make these earrings remarkable. A pair of wedges for a touch of girly in the tomboy.
This is a native American plant, cultivated about 3,000 years ago.
Today, it is mainly grown in the Dakotas, Texas panhandle, Kansas, and Minnesota for oil and for food.
Sunflower seeds are higher in vitamin E, iron, selenium, folate, and zinc than walnuts, blueberries, almonds, or sesame seeds. Superfood!
Vincent van Gogh mastered still lifes of sunflowers in 1888 in Arles. One was gifted to his friend Paul Gauguin. Another was bought nearly 100 years later at Christy’s for $39,921,750, breaking records for what was paid for art. Alas, Irises were overshadowed by sunflowers when $53.9 million was paid for that Van Gogh painting.
