Piet Oudolf is considered the Father of New Perennial, a movement that takes an almost architectural approach to gardens with plants’ structure, patterns, and placement essential to the design. Oudolf also designed High Line’s gardens.
The Battery, where the Dutch landed in the 17th century to establish New Amsterdam, is one of the oldest parks in continuous use in New York City. In 1855, immigrants arrived in the park at the depot known as Castle Garden (today Castle Clinton National Monument).
The common name for Bowman’s Root is Indian Physic because of its ability to cleanse the system by inducing vomiting.
