With shelter in place orders across cities, time seems abundant. That may be a gift or a nightmare depending on your personal situation. For those who are looking for an escape into other places and eras, we’ve got a few offbeat ideas for watching and reading.
"A French Village"
I am loving this. My husband, a WWII buff, has found heaven in this series. Wonderful character development. 7 seasons long!
"Morocco: Love in Times of War"
Very charming series about nurses from very good families and friends of the queen who worked in the Rif war (1911-1927).
"The Time in Between"
A period drama set in Madrid and Tangier that bridges sewing with the spy genre—an unusual mix for sure. I loved this main character, so tough and strong.
"The Dinner" by Herman Koch
It is a very uncomfortable read, very dark but I could not put it down.
"All My Puny Sorrows" by Miriam Toews
How can a book about suicide be so funny?
"The Overstory" by Richard Powers
The winner of 2015’s Pulitzer Prize in Fiction fell on my radar only last year ... thanks to a booky, tree-loving friend. I can’t recommend it enough.
